Our Work

Hands-on training, demonstration sites & resilient food systems

We train women and youth in Kenya to grow food using cone gardens and climate-smart farming methods, combining hands-on field training, demonstration sites and farmer to farmer learning to make food production possible even with limited land and resources.

Programme 01

Pilot Project

Between October 2023 and August 2024, CSAWE ran its first pilot project together with Hope for Girls (HOFOGI), a non-profit in Migori County, Kenya, that supports underprivileged women aged 17 to 25 through life-skills training.

We delivered our Urban Agriculture: Cone Gardens module directly on the HOFOGI site, turning their compound into a hands-on training centre. Four trainees, including HOFOGI's gardener, learned to build and maintain cone gardens, manage soil fertility and harvest continuously from a small footprint.

The pilot confirmed the core assumption behind CSAWE: with a few days of practical training and very little land, women can grow a meaningful share of their own nutritious food and pass the method on to others in their community.

Programme 02

TILTH

TILTH is CSAWE's ongoing programme in Homa Bay County, built on the lessons of the pilot. It combines cone gardens, black soldier fly (BSF) production, vermicomposting and rainwater harvesting into one circular food system that participants run themselves.

Training is modular and interlinked: each module stands on its own, and together they close the loop between organic waste, compost, animal feed and vegetable production.

Alongside the practical work, TILTH supports participants with follow-up visits, seeds and tools, so that the systems they build keep producing long after the training ends.
